HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee New Member Solicitation

Dear Colleague:

Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of HIV/AIDS seeks new member for the statewide HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee, which was originally formed in May 1994. Self-nominations are encouraged, but please reproduce and disseminate copies of the package to all individuals, key groups and organizations interested in HIV Prevention who may want to be considered for membership on this committee. The annual recruitment is needed to replace members due to attrition and/or to fill representational gaps. In order to fill gaps that currently exist in the composition of the membership, we are particularly interested in applicants who are persons living with HIV/AIDS, Latino individuals that identify with or represent target populations (see list on the nomination form), individuals that can represent incarcerated populations and experts in evaluation. However, all applications will be given consideration.

Attached is the application form (36KB - PDF), the Division’s procedures for nominating and selecting membership on the committee (26KB - PDF), and a job description (31KB - PDF) for an HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee member. It is important that applicants receive the entire package in order to understand the HIV Prevention Community Planning process. Applicants should also be sure they sign the application form.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE IN THE DIVISION OF HIV/AIDS BY NOVEMBER 1, 2006

An independent selection committee will review all applications and recommend new members to the Committee. It is expected that the selection process will be completed by the end of November. An orientation for the new members of the HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee will be conducted on January 17, 2007.

The remaining meeting dates are January 18, March 21-22, May 16-17, July 18-19, August 15-16, September 19, and November 14. All meetings are in Harrisburg. The first day, of two-day meetings, run from 9:00-4:30. The second day of two-day meetings, and one-day meetings, run from 9:00-3:00.

The Division of HIV/AIDS has a short time frame in which to carry out the HIV Prevention Community Planning process. Therefore, we are unable to extend the deadline for returning applications to us beyond November 1, 2006. Applications may also be returned to the Division by fax at (717) 772-4309.

Participatory HIV prevention community planning is an essential component of a comprehensive HIV prevention program. All members are expected to attend all meetings unless circumstances beyond their control prevent this from happening. Please take advantage of this important opportunity to affect the direction of the HIV prevention planning process in Pennsylvania. Thank you.
